Learn more about class locations, curriculum and Covid-19 safety protocols below.
In-Person RE and COVID-19 Protocol
UUCM requires that all adults working with RE as staff, teachers, and helpers be fully vaccinated. Students 2 years old and older, and all adults, will wear masks and practice social distancing at all times.
Covid bathroom protocol: There are three bathrooms on the lower level for RE use. Each has only one stall, which will facilitate the use of them by only one person at a time. RE leaders will remind students to use the bathroom as efficiently as possible. Anyone not comfortable with their child using the bathrooms on the lower level can contact dre@uucmtka.org to request other options.
Covid plan for snacks: Post-worship coffee and treats may still be in quarantine, but all classes of RE currently include a snack time, per the preference of the families taking the survey this summer. Snacks are individually wrapped, for safe distribution. For Birth-K students, it’s actually safer to use our usual system of pouring snack onto a paper towel for them to access. Hand sanitizer is used before snack, for those who are not allergic or sensitive to it. All snacks are nut free, as RE is a Nut Free Zone. Parents are always welcome to send a snack along with their child, if they prefer.
Covid plan for supplies: In response to the feedback from families, supplies (like markers) will be shared. Parents who prefer are welcome to send their own supplies specifically for their child’s use.
Curriculum and Staffing Notes:
Nursery-Preschool: students will use the Soul Matters curriculum (which follows our worship themes). The paid childcare staff person will focus on the infants and toddlers while the PreK/K Teacher will focus on the older kids. NOTE: All kids and adults will wear masks, except for children under 2 years old. Social-distancing will be practiced as much as possible, but can not be guaranteed for this age group.
Kindergarten-Grade 2 RE: teachers will use the Soul Matters curriculum.
Grades 3-5 RE: teachers will use the Soul Matters curriculum.
Grades 6-10 RE: teachers will use the Crossing Paths curriculum.
Grades 11-12 RE: students will likely enjoy a survey of World Religions.
