This week’s message invites us to explore the practice of renewal by reflecting on what keeps us going in the midst of it all.

This week’s Midweek Message reflects on Juneteenth, a celebration of the moment the last slaves learned they were free in Texas, 2-and-a-half years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed. Lynae Vanee’s poem “Today” pays tribute to Frederick Douglass’ question “what to the slave is the 4th of July?” and visualizes his dream of a free future. The UUA shared this video ahead of this week’s General Assembly.

Democracy is an important value of being a Unitarian Universalist. UUCM is partnering with Minnesota Unitarian Universalist Social Justice Alliance (MUUSJA) and the UU the Vote campaign to encourage people to vote.
MUUSJA‘s goal is to mail 70,000 postcards to contact 150,000 voters in the state of Minnesota. These postcards are targeted to renters in about 15 cities. These are cities where the election was decided by as little as 200 votes. As of this Friday, June 14, 2,370 postcards have been distributed so far.
Mike Elliott is continuing to distribute packets of postcards from UUCM that will be mailed on September 17 en masse. Please return the completed postcards to Mike, so they can all be mailed together. The packets contain 60 postcards (or more if you’d like!), pre-printed address labels and instructions on how to fill them out.
If you’d like to add your own postcard stamp, that would be great! You can also help contribute at www.muusja.org/donate and mark it “in honor of UU the Vote” to help cover the cost of postage. If you need Mike to deliver a postcard packet to your home or have any other questions please contact him at MikeElliott05@msn.com.
