Article II Passes at General Assembly

With love centered as a core value of our faith, five UUCM delegates joined more than 3,400 Unitarian Universalists from around the country this past week and overwhelmingly adopted a new statement of shared UU values!

UUCM has explored each of these proposed values through our worship and Religious Education themes throughout the 2023-2024 church year.  Article II is best captured in the flower image below, listing 6 values, with Love at its center.

More details on the flower image are available
here.

“This is a historic moment for Unitarian Universalism, as we move our living tradition forward to focus on shared values that will help promote liberation, radical inclusion, and communal care both within our church and across society,” said UUA President Rev. Dr. Sofía Betancourt. “Reviewing core values is a faithful act that expresses Unitarian Universalism as a “living tradition,” said Carey McDonald, EVP of the UUA.

The Business Resolution, “Embracing Transgender, Nonbinary, Intersex and Gender Diverse People is a Fundamental Expression of UU Religious Values” was also adopted right at the end of  Pride Month.

We look forward to exploring how each of us can live into our values together!

New North Wall Artist

Over the summer months, the North Wall Art Space will show the photography of UUCM member Jeff Adrian.  No doubt you have seen Jeff, with his camera at the ready, making a photo record of the special events and celebrations at UUCM. With this show, Jeff shares with us the photography he does as an artist. Represented in the show is his work in street photography and street portraiture. He’d be happy to talk with you about how he captures these moments in time.

UU the Vote Postcard Campaign Update

Democracy is an important value of being a Unitarian Universalist. UUCM is partnering with Minnesota Unitarian Universalist Social Justice Alliance (MUUSJA) and the UU the Vote campaign to encourage people to vote.

MUUSJA‘s goal is to mail 70,000 postcards to contact 150,000 voters in the state of Minnesota. These postcards are targeted to renters in about 15 cities. These are cities where the election was decided by as little as 200 votes. As of this Friday, June 14, 2,370 postcards have been distributed so far.

Mike Elliott is continuing to distribute packets of postcards from UUCM that will be mailed on September 17 en masse. Please return the completed postcards to Mike, so they can all be mailed together. The packets contain 60 postcards (or more if you’d like!), pre-printed address labels and instructions on how to fill them out.

If you’d like to add your own postcard stamp, that would be great! You can also help contribute at www.muusja.org/donate and mark it “in honor of UU the Vote” to help cover the cost of postage. If you need Mike to deliver a postcard packet to your home or have any other questions please contact him at MikeElliott05@msn.com.
