SAVE THE DATE: Ingathering Service & Water Ceremony on September 10!

Who enjoyed strolling along a beautiful river, jumping in a puddle or playing at a favorite beach this summer? Perhaps a vacation led you to a far away ocean or waterfall and you can’t stop reflecting on its beauty or the feeling of awe you had while in its presence. Perhaps you rediscovered the joy of playing and relaxing in your own backyard. With any luck, you gathered a few drops of that water and are able to share it in our beloved ritual of the Water Ceremony. (You can also bring symbolic water, too!) One does not need to look far to find a source of water that is significant to you – it can come from a friend’s kitchen sink, a trip to the North Shore or UUCM’s very own “Walden Pond.”

Think of a place that has allowed you to feel connected and grounded. We invite you to then share that feeling and deepen that connection with others on Sept. 10, as we merge all of our waters together. This unique UU ritual celebrates that we are a shared faith coming from many different sources and a vibrant community where all are welcome to come together united in hope and strength. The water we bring together will be boiled and used as the congregation’s “holy water” in child dedications and other special events.

“Let Freedom Ring” Concert

One of the Racial Justice ministry’s goals this year is to find fun ways for us to learn together about systemic racism, being anti-racist, and how we—as a society—got to this place. Our first opportunity is a concert and art show at the University of Minnesota on Monday, August 28th that commemorates the 60th anniversary of the March on Washington for Jobs & Freedom. There is an art show on display at Coffman Union, a procession and outdoor remarks on Northrup Mall, followed by the “Let Freedom Ring” concert inside Northrup Auditorium. It all starts at 5pm, with the concert at 6:30-8:00. You can come for part or all of the full event. This is a free event and the Racial Justice Ministry has reserved a block of tickets for UUCM! Contact Karen Zais if you want a ticket! We’ll figure out car pooling after we know who’s attending. You can find more information here.
