From the Board: October 2022

Each month, a member of the board will share a reflection on the Soul Matters monthly theme. The theme for October is Courage. This month’s post is offered by Betty Hartnett.

Courage (Oxford Dictionary):
1. The ability to do something that frightens one.
2. Strength in the face of pain or grief.

I have never thought of myself as courageous. I always thought of having courage as being bold. And I’m not bold! But as I look at the definitions from Oxford, I see that I have done things that have frightened me, such as being the only child in a family of seven to go off to college at eighteen, basically cut off from family. I had no money or transportation, only a scholarship that covered tuition and books. I am a mother of two and all mothers know that giving birth and raising children involves pain and lots of frightening moments (but always worth it). I learned to ski in my late thirties and for a while I could say, “Black Diamonds beware!” (That thought no longer surfaces, but I still ski.) Continue reading →

Come one and come all for family games, card games, board games and role-playing games. Feel free to bring a favorite game from home, or we will have several available for you to join in. Friends are always welcome as well!

A bonfire will also be roaring, if weather allows. All children must be accompanied by an adult if they are outside by the fire.

UUCM Mid-Week Message 9/28/22

This week’s message reflects on the challenge of belonging to the more difficult parts of ourselves. Rev. Lisa shares a story and a poem of welcoming a homeless dog as a path towards belonging to the wholeness of our lives.

You are also invited to view an introduction and link to September’s UUConnectMonthly newsletter, below the video message.

The 2022 UUCM Auction: Come join us for a Sock Hop!

UUCM2022AuctionUpdated October 7 The UUCM Auction is held each year to create a fun community-building event for our members and friends, and to raise money for the UUCM General Fund. The Auction has grown to be one of the most anticipated events on the UUCM Social Calendar and our largest fundraiser.

After two years of all-virtual auctions, the 2022 event will return to the church building on Saturday November 5th with an in-person live and silent auction. Doors open at 5:30pm, and the program begins at 6:30pm.  The live auction will also be open to Zoom participants, and we will continue with the popular online bidding from Friday October 28th to Sunday November 6th.

This year’s theme is “Sock Hop!”  Our school-dance inspired theme is a celebration of our new DFM and Ministerial Intern, and their role in teaching our children and helping UUCM to be a teaching congregation.

We hope you will participate in the auction fun. Here’s how:

  1. Mark your Calendar: Put the dates listed above on your calendar and plan to engage in the online and in-person events.
  2. Make a Donation:  Please consider donating an item, event, or experience.  Your donations are critical to the auction’s success. To make a donation, please use the form at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/uucmauction2022 by Midnight on Monday, October 24.  You can find ideas for donations by browsing these past catalogs.
  3. Get More Information: Check out the auction website at https://charityauction.bid/uucm2022, stop by the Auction Information table in the community room on Sundays, or attend a virtual auction information session after church at 11:30am on October 23 (use this Auction Info Meeting ZOOM LINK, Meeting ID 821 1999 1275, Passcode 047936).

We look forward to your participation in the auction.  If you have any questions, please contact Karen Hulting (khulting@comcast.net).
