A new UU Pagan affinity group is launching in the Twin Cities! Spirit Grove of the Twin Cities meets in person at MN Valley UU Fellowship in Bloomington the second Sunday of the month after the service and online on the 4th Saturday of the month at 6 p.m. The group is open to all. Please contact Anthony Dallozzi for more information if you’re interested in joining.

I attended a recent meeting where I had a severe PTSD flashback and had to leave for the majority of it. I tried to discreetly ask for assistance, but no one attempted to be sure I was okay, instead implying that I was overreacting without taking the time to understand the nature of my experiences/flashback. When I approached the director afterwards to ask to be more careful of these things in the future, she asked what I wanted her to do about it, so here this is:
If guided meditations are done in the future, please have the director look through the material beforehand for triggering content –for example, prompting people to think of bad sexual experiences while in a meditative state. Please provide a warning beforehand if these things are to be raised. If someone is triggered, please ask the person if they are okay and need a few minutes alone to deescalate, instead of assuming the nature of the flashback or experience. Meditations put people in a vulnerable state, and directors need to be conscientious of this.
