Social Generosity Offering: January 2021

Our January offering will go to Mapping Prejudice, a research project based at the University of Minnesota dedicated to exposing the structural barriers in the Twin Cities that have stopped people of color from buying property in white communities, limiting access to community resources like parks and schools. They have uncovered thousands of properties in Hennepin County that have racially restrictive covenants in their deeds, including our own UUCM church property.

The project is also demonstrating the long-term effects of segregated housing that result in present day disparities in other metrics of well-being. Their efforts in Minneapolis are made especially urgent by the city’s contemporary racial disparities, which are some of the largest in the nation. Continue reading below for more details. Thank you for your generosity!

Social Generosity Offering: November 2020

Our November offering will go to honor and support the 25th year of the IOCP Sleep Out Campaign. Thousands of caring kids and community members have joined this movement to sleep in boxes, tents and cars (or donate to those who do) to raise awareness and funds to prevent homelessness. The funds raised through the Sleep Out campaign help IOCP (Interfaith Outreach & Community Partners) deliver individualized services – in the areas of family support, food, housing and neighborhoods, education and youth, employment, and transportation – that help nearly 2,000 local families each year stabilize, strengthen and thrive. Visit sleepout.iocp.org to learn more.

How to Donate: You can donate online using a credit card at bit.ly/giveuucm. You may also mail a contribution to UUCM at 2030 Wayzata Blvd E, Wayzata MN 55391. Simply make your check out to “UUCM” with “Social Generosity” in the memo line.

New Resources on Race

Many of you are engaging in anti-racism learning both individually and in community at UUCM. As a follow-up resource to our recent small group offering, here is a resource list with suggested books, movies, podcasts, and organizations. This is by no means an exhaustive list, but is a place to start or continue your journey and commitment to racial healing and justice. If you know of other resources that may be helpful, please feel free to share them with our adult ed. ministry facilitator, Stephanie Siewert
