The UU Families Initiative (UUFI) is a group of parents working to create common practices within our community for raising our children in the Unitarian Universalist tradition. These rituals can be shared between parents, grandparents, family and friends. We will be offering a brief introduction during our worship service on Jan. 8, followed by four workshops during 2023.
Pancake Breakfast Mealtime Ritual
Sunday, January 22 from 8:30-10 AM
One of the most beloved traditions takes place at mealtime, so we would like to invite families with children in our birth to 5th grade classrooms (and their families) to a pancake breakfast on Jan. 22. While parents learn about the ritual and hear from other families who have made it a part of their lives, children will make their own chalices and booklets with popular chalice lighting words to take home. Families will then come back together to practice the ritual at the end of the workshop as they delight in a stack of pancakes. This is a great way to meet other UUCM families who are part of your community and help your children make deeper connections to classmates in RE. Bonus – Kids can come in their pajamas so everyone can get out the door easier!

Black Lives of Unitarian Universalism (BLUU) is committed to expanding the power and capacity of Black UUs within Unitarian Universalism; providing support, information, and resources for Black Unitarian Universalists; and justice-making and liberation for Black people through our faith. This month’s offering will support BLUU’s
“I am an American painter passionate about Nature and animals. At Harvard I studied with E.O. Wilson who said that rainforests are the “storehouses” for biodiversity on Earth, and that frogs are the canary in the coal mine. Biodiversity, Wilson said, is essential to human survival. This is why I paint frogs. I love color, expression, and truth. My connection with nature inspires and informs my subjects and studio work. Among my notable works are paintings of rainforest frogs and big wild cats, as well as birds, turtles, bears, wolves, and fish.” Read Bradley’s full bio
