Minister’s Message 9/30/20

Renewal invites us not just to hope for change, but to also believe change is possible. This week’s message reflects on Unitarian Universalism as a living tradition, one that sees even our foundational principles as capable of change and growth. Rev. Lisa talks about the 8th principle project and invites us to learn more. (https://www.8thprincipleuu.org/)

UUCM Alert: Phishing Email Scam

Greetings UUCM,

We’re writing to let you know about a scam email that seems to be targeting churches, including UUCM. Apparently, this is happening to other churches, so we’re not alone.

Phishing emails continue to get more sophisticated and troublesome. Please be extra cautious and communicative if you are not sure about a request. If you receive an email or text message that appears to be from a UUCM minister, staff or church member asking you for a favor, money or to purchase gift cards, please be sure to always speak with the alleged sender directly (call them) BEFORE giving money or purchasing gift cards of any kind.

A reminder that any communication from UUCM staff will come from the church email alias @uucmtka.org.

We have no reason to believe this is anything other than the scam described above, and appreciate your cooperation in ignoring and deleting these annoying messages.

Please don’t hesitate to be in touch at office@uucmtka.org if you have any questions, comments, or concerns.

RE Is In Session!

Families of Preschool-5th graders will gather at 11:15am most Sundays for Family Chapel Time before kids break into age groups 11:30am-noon. Use the Zoom link info in the Friday Update to join in the Family Chapel Time.

Families of registered 6th-9th graders will receive the link for the Dungeons & Dragons groups running at different times on Sunday afternoons.

Registered 10th-12th graders will be meeting at 11:30am at the UUCM fire pit on Sundays (weather permitting, otherwise on Zoom) on a schedule set by their RE leaders. The meeting will follow specific guidelines related to Covid-19 safety as outlined in Phase 1 of our pandemic preparedness plan.

Please feel free to contact Jennifer Swick, Director of Family Ministry, with any questions.

Thank you for your Support of Solar Power!

We have received very positive responses from members and friends about the move to solar power, and many of you have made a donation in support of the project.  As of September 15 we have raised $37,900!  Your generous support means that we will have to spend less from our capital reserve.  We still welcome additional donations to offset the project cost.   If you would like to show your support for the project and make a gift, you can mail a check with “Solar” in the memo to the church, or give online at bit.ly/giveuucm and enter your donation under “Building Fund.”  Donations of any size are appreciated. The engineering work to prepare for our solar installation is continuing.  And we hope to finalize the installation plan soon.  Stay tuned for updates. You can read more on the project here.
