UUCM is Going Solar!

A message from Fred Hulting, Board President, boardpresident@uucmtka.org

Over the past six months a team led by Jackie Smolen has developed a proposal for UUCM to work with Minnesota Interfaith Power and Light to install convert our electric power to solar. This proposal was recently approved by the Council and the Board. They’re coming! Solar panels are coming to UUCM!

SOLAR PANEL UPDATE Representatives from Sundial Corporation were at church this week to do the initial site visit, the first step in preparing for solar panels on our roof.  You can read more on the project here. If you would like to show your support for the project and make a gift, you can mail a check with “Solar” in the memo to the church, or give online at bit.ly/giveuucm and enter your donation under “Building Fund” – donations of any size are appreciated. Be sure to stay tuned for more updates as the project gets underway.

NEW UPDATES We are excited to welcome your family into our virtual religious education program this fall! Please read about the plan for each age group below and, if you haven’t already, click here to fill out the RE Registration Form

  • Preschool-5th grade RE (11:15am-12pm most Sundays): Students and their parents will gather 11:15-11:30am for Family Chapel Time. Then Kindergarten-2nd grade and 3rd-5th grade students will break into separate rooms (without parents) for check-in, activities and games. Preschoolers (with their parents) can join the K-2nd grade group.
  • 6th-9th grade RE (two-hour sessions, every other week): We are thrilled to offer a roleplaying experience this fall for these ages. Dungeons and Dragons might be best summed up as “collaborative storytelling.” No experience is necessary.
  • 10th-12th grade RE: The leaders of this age group work with those registered, to create together their schedule and decide on topics to be covered throughout the year.

Mid-Week Minister’s Message 8/19/20

What happens when we discover that our heroes and heroines are flawed, and we must reckon with their failures? This week’s video reflects on the lives of two Unitarian suffragists: Susan B. Anthony & Francis Ellen Watkins Harper.
